Pride Week Event Organizers FAQ

Hello! Pride Week is now 40 events strong, from family-friendly to outdoor, wellness, arts, and nightlife! Thanks to YOU our week feels very community-centered and well thought out.

Here are a few practical suggestions and ways to help Truckee Pride Foundation build a year-round community.

Things to add or edit on your event page

We are now in the 1.5 week window before Pride Week! People are viewing the website and making plans. Please edit your event (link at bottom of your event's page) with details, updates and additions - especially if you are sold out.

• How and why attendees can volunteer for your event!
• Where to park and tips/tricks about the location. Are you located near the bike path? Will you have signage or someone greeting people?
• Encourage carpooling. How can someone who is new/solo meetup with others?
• Advise to bring sunscreen, water, snacks, if outdoors.
• More details that may be helpful (restrooms).
• Reminder about age requirements or tickets required.
• Are you sold out? Please update your page. 
• Clarity, details about accessibility.
• Be honest and factual about difficulty. Attendees may not be from around here.
• What are you providing at the event? Supplies, gear, food, water, materials?
• Warning if your location may have no cell service.
• Tell them to check your event page the day before in case of cancellation, Plan B (weather, smoke, etc.) then be sure to EDIT YOUR EVENT if that happens. 
• If anyone has signed up for alerts about your event, send an email. 

Transportation options to/from your event

The paragraph below is now on the home page. 

Within Truckee Town limits (where most events are) there is a free shuttle called TART Connect operating 6:30am-10pm. Download the Tart Connect App to reserve a trip or call (530) 553-0653. TART Connect wait times can be up to 45 minutes. 

1. Contact the Event Organizer (find on event page) if you are looking for a ride hookup or are willing to be a carpool driver.
2. Uber and Lyft are around, but in a small town there are not many.
3. There are 26 miles of bike/walk paved paths that will get you to most Pride Week events with bike racks at most locations. Truckee is a 5 mile square miles-ish Town. 
4. There are E-Bikes to rent throughout Truckee.

Spread the word about lodging - $100 gift card for 2 nights+

Also on the home page. Visit Truckee-Tahoe is offering a gift card if you book for two or more nights May 30-June 7th. It can be a hotel, vacation rental, etc. Learn More

Ask friends and family to volunteer

The Get Involved link in the website footer includes a link to a Google Form for volunteering, but the best way is to enthusiastically recruit your friends! When you get solid commitments, please add names of volunteers helping at your event on the Volunteer Spreadsheet so Holly and Erika know!

1. Post this flyer to help build community

This QR Code goes to a page for Email sign up, volunteer opportunities, and donations. Copies of this flyer will be distributed at the May 21, 7pm Event Organizer meeting at Church of the Mountains. If you miss it, we’ll leave some there. 

2. Share our Truckee Pride , unified welcome message

To help build our year-round community, please emphasize signing up for emails and donating via the flyer QR Code.

To help with future fundraising, please do a total head count (then also locals vs. visitors) to help with major funding requests next year.

Feeling Unsafe? Emergency? Crisis? CALL 911

Truckee is a (comparably) safe, rural town. But if a person is behaving in an unsafe, threatening way, please call 911 or call our local police department dispatch line 530.550.2320. Truckee Police are aware of Pride Week and will be able to assist.
